The Diocese of Lubbock Office of Communications

The Office of Communications for the Diocese of Lubbock serves as the communications arm for the Bishop of Lubbock in his commitment to provide trustworthy information, well-founded inspiration, and a sense of Catholic identity to the parishioners of this local church. The communications office manages communications between the diocese and both the Catholic and secular communities on the Llano Estacado and Low Rolling Plains of West Texas. The office also provides various communications-related services for diocesan ministries, parishes, schools and Catholic organizations. The diocesan communications board was formed in 1998 to advise the bishop and aid the communications office in providing these services. Ministries provided by the office of communications include:

South Plains Catholic      

A monthly tabloid newspaper delivered by direct mail to  more than 12,400 households.

The Pastoral Update

A weekly e-mail and direct mail newsletter to pastors, parish staff personnel, media and other interested parties

Publications and Video Services    

  • The Diocese of Lubbock Pastoral Directory   
  • Various video projects (e.g. A Papal Greeting DVD, a Paikowski Award DVD…)
  • The annual Diocesan Catholic Appeal theme video
  • The annual Diocesan Catholic Appeal theme brochures, poster, prayer cards, and flyers 
  • Various posters (e.g. Vocations, diocesan-wide liturgies…)    
  • Prayer cards (e.g. Vocations, Diocesan Catholic Appeal)
  • Congratulatory ads from the bishop and diocese to other bishops
  • Various billboards (e.g. Catholic Schools Week, Worldwide Marriage Day, Footsteps in Faith…)

  • Various print projects (e.g. the Silver Jubilee History Book, the Bishop’s Guild program)
  • Various special projects (e.g. the “Catholic Roots” historical marker, the “La Mitra” display…)

Website (catholiclubock.org) and Social Media

  • Work with all departments and Catholic organizations to keep the site current and informative
  • Provide official church site links (e.g. the Vatican, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops…)
  • Post diocesan publications (e.g. the South Plains Catholic, pastoral directory…)
  • Provide a social media presence for the Diocese of Lubbock and update content regularly

Public Relations

  • Send regular press releases to area newspaper and broadcast media outlets
  • Organize and facilitate press conferences on behalf of the Bishop of Lubbock
  • Serve as the liaison between the Bishop of Lubbock and local media

Editorial Services

  • Provide copywriting and proof-reading services as requested
  • Provide translation services as requested

Committees & Pastoral Planning

  • Provide administrative services for the building committee and the Diocesan Catholic Appeal Committee
  • Serve as communications advisor for special committees (e.g. Year of Faith, Diocesan Catholic Appeal)
  • Attend and report news of regular diocesan meetings and special events
